Kids, Faith, and Fun

I'm spending this week as the guest speaker for the Senior High CYMC Camp at Pilgrim Pines. For years, I spent a significant part of every summer at camp. I only realized yesterday as I walked into the dining hall in the middle of their lunch time that I haven't been back at summer camp since we had our first child, but that in only a few short years he'll be old enough to start at the camp himself.

Our Pilgrim Pines camp is in the middle of a campaign drive to raise money to update and make the camp more accessible to kids and adults with disabilities. It's an exciting project, and one that will make a huge difference in the future of that amazing place. It's quite an experience to walk into that dining hall and just feel the energy, see the Minis (youngest campers), the Pinesters (adult campers with developmental disabilities), the raucous Senior Highers, the too-cool Junior Highers, the Juniors ready to jump in the pool, the counselors still-smiling and looking rested (it's early in the week). People of literally every color, shape and size, all together, all a part of a very special place where God's peace and love are truly present.

Our congregation is throwing a BIG fundraiser to support Pilgrim Pines' campaign. Plan now to join us for an old-fashioned Country Fair on Saturday, September 24th, from 3-7 p.m. There will be games and bingo for prizes, cake and pie competitions (and the winners will be for sale!), entertainment, food, and LOTS of fun. Mark your calendars now, and call the church office to volunteer to help.

P.S. ALL ages are welcome to a mountaintop experience at camp - October 7-9 is our All-Church Family Camp at Pilgrim Pines - tell Love to reserve a place for you today!
