Hurricane Relief Efforts

Along with bloggers around the world, today we pray for the victims and their loved ones of Hurricane Katrina, and we encourage you to donate to the relief efforts. The United Church of Christ has made an initial goal of a million dollars to raise to support relief and recovery efforts. You can donate securely online at ucc.org or you can bring a check in to the church office, and we will forward the funds immediately.

At ucc.org you can learn more about affected UCC institutions like the historic Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, which has shared in ministry with the poor in south Mississippi for more than 80 years, and which will need enormous help in the days to come. You can also read about the efforts of other UCC-related colleges to take in the students of Dillard University in New Orleans until they are able to resume classes, so that Dillard will be able to continue long into the future.

There are more stories out there than it is possible to share, and we are called to lift up the hopeful ones, seek justice where there is injustice, and help to create more hope for these communities in the days, weeks, months and years to come. May God's peace give us all strength and love.
