GAME NIGHT!!!

It's not Nancy's fault, she was misinformed, but she's spreading the awful rumor on this blog that Game Night is cancelled this week. It's not!!

I have from authoritative sources that this Friday night we will indeed be gathering at 7 p.m. in the Fireside Room here at church (instead of at someone's house, just for this month).

I've only been to one of the game nights so far, but there was lots of fun to be had. There were several choices of games to be played- I had fun with dominoes, and enjoyed chatting and catching up with lots of different people. All ages are welcome - bring your favorite games, and a snack to share. See you there!

My Day at the Homework Center

By Cheryl N:
"One day last month, before all the rush of the Rummage Sale, I decided that I would help out at the Homework Center. That day, there were four new children. Deb assigned me to a wonderful first grade boy. He had his homework ready for me to help him with. We did some math - really it wasn’t too hard, some English work and reading. Deb helped to evaluate his reading level and we picked out a book from the library. He chose a book about dinosaurs, and besides reading the book, he drew some pictures of his favorite ones.

Later, Deb set up a special folder for the child to bring his homework in each day. We all had a snack and then just talked about school. That day, I helped out for about 2 hours, and then had to go home and fix dinner. I think he felt good about his homework that day, and I know that I felt good about being able to help someone."

P.S. from Rev. Petra: Homework Center volunteers are always needed. Just call Deb at the church office to be a part of this amazing opportunity.

The Spirit is coming!!

So, the rummage sale is over - except for the pickups and deliveries that will continue all week. What an amazing amount of work, and such amazing results!! So many wonderful opportunities to get to know each other and our neighbors, so much great food, so many stories to be shared. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, to each one of you.

Now, we get to move right into one of my favorite times in the church year: Pentecost! This Sunday will be Youth Sunday, and our young people are VERY full of the Spirit. I've heard some of their plans, and it is going to be a wonderful day to celebrate the gifts we've all been given and to be led in worship by some amazing people.

Don't forget to wear RED!! See you Sunday!!

Rummage Sale!!

So, the church has turned into a marvelous treasureland... You turn a corner and who knows what or who you will find there. There is an entire section just for lamps- and they're surprised that there are only 2 chandeliers this year (last year there were 12!). Everyone is so tickled for me to see this for the first time. It is really unbelievable!!

What is even more wonderful though is the time to just be together - to have people here all week long living and eating and working together. Yesterday I got to hear a story of a miracle, and meet new people, and get two recommendations- one for a dentist and one for a networking connection!

I'm a person who believes that things all have stories, and it's a joy to wonder about the stories of these things that surround us this week in the patio and the hall and the yard and the hallways. Where on earth does it all come from?

Come and join in - lend a hand, find a treasure, make a friend. It's an amazing week.
